RE: Gadget - 25% more miles per gallon?

Bumpy, if you go to: www. sunpulse. co.uk (without the spaces), you will find the site. I really do not want it linked to increase its popularity on the net. Under the "Buy Sunpulse" heading you will find a menu of detailed information -- read and laugh! The claims are so outrageous that one cannot begin to take it seriously. But... after the RV show, there was a host of European motorhomers querying if this was a good buy on forums. Just goes to show that many will fork out the cash for such things.

RE: Gadget - 25% more miles per gallon?

Yeah, I just found it too far fetched and with around a thousand fellow motorhomer's parked up here for the weekend there are sadly going to be a few suckers parting with their cash. :( But not me :)

Gadget - 25% more miles per gallon?

We're parked up at a motorhome show in Europe and there is this guy circulating a flyer for a device that "easily fits on your battery in two minutes" that supposedly "ups your HP and Torque and makes your engine more responsive, drive better and provides up to 25% more miles per gallon" :? You won't find me a customer, but has anyone heard of such a device developed in Japan that creates "new electronic impulses to improve engine ignition and combustion conditions, reduce CO Emission and maintain your battery, as long as your engine has an ECU (injected)" I say BS, but what do the techs on here say? EDIT: I HAVE TAKEN OFF THE LINK TO HIS WEBSITE JUST IN CASE SOMEONE DOES BELIEVE IT. HATE TO HAVE THAT ON MY CONSCIOUS!

RE: Jake Brake ??

Foretravel and Featherlite/converter-Prevost come to mind as the predominent users of transmission retarders in motorhomes. And most (if not all) Detroit Series 60 engines, as ours, has a 3-stage Jake Compression Brake. I would think a transmission retarder would be superior option to the compression brake though and an exhaust/pac brake would slot in before brakes only. Is there something else?

RE: Help me, I think that I am getting bus fever!

Here is a 1998 Vogue on a Prevost chassis with matching trailer and 160,000 miles. Still not cheap either. Sadly, a gone era Here it is! But you can still order a new Country Coach on a Prevost chassis, which makes the older ones (era 1995) a good deal today. There are many advantages in purchasing a pre-loved bus conversion direct from the manufacturer since they take them in trade when upgrading their customers. They then just want to get them off the lot rapidly and will do surprisingly good deals, throwing in many servicing incentives like new tires etc. You got to act quick though.

RE: Help me, I think that I am getting bus fever!

Cody, some Vogues are bus conversions on Prevost chassis. On edit: some Country Coach motorhomes are bus conversions built on Prevost chassis as well. I know we are battering this topic to death in a good way and so the OP can now search the net for different alternatives. Then again, some bus platforms and converters are better than others -- so a whole new topic we can keep this going on :)

RE: Help me, I think that I am getting bus fever!

We're still on tour over in Europe and sitting admist thousands of motorhomes, quite a few American, but the vast majority European. Just down the row is a real-deal Eagle (hobbiest converted) with the 8V-71 engine. It's dark outside, but I hope to post a pic of it tomorrow.

RE: Help me, I think that I am getting bus fever!

So, by that definition, an Orion is a "bus", but a Wanderlodge, a Crown, or a Gillig isn't. A VanHool is a bus, an RTS II, a Superior, or a TDH5300 New Look isn't. Err, OK...I'm going to politely call that "divorced from reality". My own "personal dictionary" classifies a true bus as a commercial grade over-the-road "transcontinental" bus. And many will differ. We are parked next to a 9 seater bus right now, but if they converted that into a motorhome, I doubt the OP would consider this. Our Vogue is not a bus, although it does look like a loaf of sandwich bread going down the road. An Eagle is, a Prevost is, an MCI is, a Vantool is, a Setra is etc in my "personal dictionary" since these were robustly built for the long-haul. An urban transporter, city school bus etc. can make for nice motorhomes and can be rightly classified as a bus. But when looking for a robust "bus" conversion, I would look toward Prevost, Eagle or MCI and settle on a 40' XL. I have no problem when an Allegro owner refers to his motorhome as a bus, as we refer to the Vogue as a coach, but that is not what the OP is looking for -- I believe.

RE: Help me, I think that I am getting bus fever!

Find a Prevost XL 40' bus outfitted by a professional conversion company like Monarch or Featherlite. They're robust, luxurious and, even when 15 years old, superior in characteristics to many newly manufactured motorhomes. But even used, they are not cheap! What constitues a "bus"? Allegro aside, lay opinions will differ. In my personal dictionary it would be a frame, drive train and shell as used in a "transcontinental" commercial bus converted by either a company or hobbiest. So there goes the city/school buses. But, many highend coaches use commercial long-distance bus technology: Newell being one with its Setra drive components.

RE: What do you Own? Updated Results 8-11-2008

I have posted before in attempt to get our brand on the chart, but here goes again! Year: 2000 Manufacturer: Featherlite Model: Vogue 5000 Engine: Detroit Series 60 We would not be the only single unit represented in the stats

RE: 1st Walmart stay, had a bad experience!

I am currently "roaring" across continental Europe in our Ultima GTR, while the wife is camped in a very good Caravan Club site on the south coast of the UK. She was being hassled by a fellow camper who kept asking to come in and take a peek inside the coach . Of course she said "no", but then the other night he tried to kiss her on the neck while she was outside putting away patio furniture. She informed the office, but fortunately, the police came that night and arrested the guy for a domestic dispute with his girlfriend at the campground. He was bothering other campers as well. There are nuts everywhere.

RE: Integrated Motorhome Computer?

Friends have a Microsoft Media Server onboard via a laptop, albeit with good memory, and have all their stored movies instead of CD's -- and electronic books for their sony e-readers. Most newer laptops (two years old) have very good hard disk vibration handling, especially the IBM's. The only thing my wife would add is an X-Box (and she's a great grandmother already).

RE: RV Drinking Water Closet!

I grew up on clean-tasting, mountain-fresh Cascade mountain water, coming somehow or another (and I don't want to know) into our home tap. Many other places, yuck, especially those southern motel rooms. I guess its just what you prefer, so I can understand the OP. We have two industrial size (think big) water filters in our bay, but I am not a fan of drinking from the RV tap, so we carry good tasting water (when found) in 2-gallon jugs underneath. Of course a 9,600 pound payload helps if the wife keeps her shoes home.

RE: Flashing on Xantrex control

The ol' phone cable to display trick. Good advice for a starting place and something that we periodically have to do too :) Keep us informed.

RE: Country Coach Veranda!!

It looks like something a politician who is campaigning would use. :) We would honestly purchase a variation of the idea, one where instead of a veranda they had wide steps coming down onto the patio. I like outside/inside open living. Of course its not for Burning Man or other dusty boondocking areas, but resorts where you have your own thatched-covered wet bar, BBQ and Florida room built up. ...And a good outdoor air con system!

RE: 09 Newmar Ventana Fails Safety Inspection **UPDATE**

Different places, different rules. I always was under the impression that you had to drive in Canada with fog lights in the daytime, but what do I know - I haven't visited Canada for eons. There are some countries in Europe that driving without your head lights on(always) results in a $20 fine. Don't ask how we know :)

RE: Tow Car recomendations

We tow a Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4 and can't tell it's there with the Detroit, but something just as easy to set-up and with better gas mileage would be ideal. We're seeing a lot of Smart Cars being towed four down here in Europe. May not be the same model as sold back home though.
